As promised, I’m back to give an update on the coming week! It’s a biggie for us! I think most of you should be up to date on where we’re at thus far but for those who aren’t, don’t worry, I do plan on doing some back story at some point.
Right now, Jake isn’t feeling great. Don’t get me wrong, he does have good moments! We are extremely grateful for those times but he gets “episodes” frequently throughout the day now. He is finding that any bit of activity is sending him into flutters. That leaves him in a spot where he’s walking *very slowly* from chair to chair in the house and we use the wheelchair anytime there’s any amount of walking needed (grocery store, church, park dates with the kids, etc). This is a pretty considerable change since even a few weeks ago, so that’s a bit discouraging for him, as you can imagine. Unfortunately, he is maxed out on antiarrhythmic meds, so his team has said the only other option is to be admitted to the hospital and be put on IV medications. Thankfully, I don’t think he’s there yet. His spirits are good though, guys. That’s the amazing thing! He is so steadfast in the Lord and that changes everything!
This week we will meet with his advanced heart failure team and hopefully get an update on when they will be presenting him to the transplant committee! He has completed all the pre-transplant evaluation tests (which, oh my goodness, that was A LOT! Lol!) so it should be anytime, right!? Then the other big appointment is with a new EP (electrophysiology) Doctor to discuss the possibility of an Epicardial Ablation. This is a specialized ablation that is performed on the outside of the heart which is where his Vtach seems to be stemmed from. There are apparently only two doctors in the area that perform these and they can be a bit tricky with people who have Jake’s gene mutation. The big question people initially ask is, “Will this delay the transplant?!” Well, we don’t think so…they are calling it a bridge to get him to transplant. Maybe the hope is that it could provide some relief while he’s waiting for a heart? That would be nice! We will see. For now, we pray for God’s will to be done, whatever that looks like.
Would you pray for those appointments with us? Wisdom and discernment for Jake and I, wisdom for the doctors, and peace of mind for our children. We are so glad you’re here and, honestly, if you read this long, thank you! Haha! More updates to come π
Thank you Brie! Continued prayers for yβall!!πβ€οΈπ
Thank you, Brie, for doing this blog so that we can be as updated as possible. Our love and prayers are with Jake, you and your sweet kiddos!
What a great idea, Brie! It was so good to talk to you and Jake yesterday, but I’m sure this blog will be much easier than making all those phone calls trying to keep everyone in the loop. Love you all.
